The course focuses on questioning the sources of architectural thought. Opens architectural studies to discussion as an interdisciplinary field. For this purpose, the course is shaped by questions around the place of architecture between science and art and its relationship with social sciences, literature and cultural studies.

The student makes presentations on the subject, bibliographies, methods and studies of the thesis at specified times during the semester. The aim is to provide an environment of discussion before the thesis.

MIM6201 Proficiency Exam Preparation Course 0+0+0 30 Compulsory
Starting from the fifth semester, the student develops the thesis with the support of their advisor. Before the beginning of the thesis, the student is tested with the PhD Qualifying Exam. The course is a prepatory study for the exam.

The student presents their doctoral thesis proposal to the jury members.

At the end of the 4th semester, the student who successfully completes their courses, passes the doctoral qualifying exam and whose thesis proposal is accepted begins their doctoral thesis. This course focuses on housing in the context of modernity. This subject will be evaluated from two different routes: housing as a physical space and dwelling as a culture. Premises for modern housing production and economy, individual agents in the housing regime, micro-politics in various geographies and the housing idea generated by the sociality and professionals are among the topics of discussion. Titles such as categorization, statistics, typology, standard, etc will be introduced and analyzed in-depth through their ability to construct the normative mindset about housing and dwelling. Some recent comparative work by housing scholars will be used to create a medium for a fruitful discussion.
