“Be a Light” and “Be a Sound”, social responsibility projects of Istinye University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in cooperation with the Disability Support Unit, have been recognized at the Universal Design in Information Technologies (BILTEVT 2022) International Barrier-Free Informatics 2022 Congress, organized by the Turkish Platform of Barrier-Free Information Technology. The E-KPSS course projects “Be a Light for the Visually Disabled” and “Be a Sound for the Deaf” were presented with the Barrier-Free Informatics Education Award.
The “Be a Light” and “Be a Sound” projects reached visually-disabled and deaf individuals across Türkiye. In the projects, Istinye University faculty members and students came together to develop and deliver lessons to individuals with disabilities and support the continued availability of the lessons. Volunteer translators of the Sign Language Translators’ Association and the students and teachers of Kabataş Boys High School made invaluable contributions to the projects.
