ATLAS Experiment is a general-purpose particle physics experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider and has the largest detector system ever built for a particle collider. The ATLAS Experiment, being a global collaboration, is run by a total of 182 institutions from 42 countries. Istinye University has been accepted as an ATLAS full member in 2023. This increased the number of Turkish institutions that are ATLAS full members to three (Boğaziçi University, Ankara University and Istinye University).

With this initiative, Istinye University has joined the decision makers in all processes of the ATLAS Collaboration Board and has also been accepted to the Institute Boards of two sub-detector systems in the experiment. Physicists, engineers and students from İstinye contribute to the experiment in a wide spectrum by taking part in its operation, maintenance, upgrades, data taking and data analysis. In addition to strengthening our global position in fundamental research, the ATLAS membership of Istinye has significantly increased R&D and knowledge transfer opportunities of Türkiye in the fields of particle detector technologies, software and hardware, which have wide application areas.
