The Opening Ceremony of Istinye University Technology Transfer Office (ISU Tech) supported by Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA) took place on Monday, April 15th 2019 at Istinye University Topkapi Campus with the participation of the Rector of Istinye University Dr. Melih BULU, the Vice-Rector Prof. Erdal KARAÖZ, the Director of ISU Tech Asst. Prof Melik ERTUĞRUL, academicians, and ISTKA officials.
The Director of the Technology Transfer Office, Assistant Professor Melik Ertuğrul gave information about the office: “Currently, we have four modules in our office. These are; project support, entrepreneurship and incubation, university-industry cooperation and intellectual property units. The physical infrastructure of our incubation centre was completely established, and we made our first call for applications. We have a capacity of 16 people. In our project unit, we support our academicians in project-writing. We offer support for ISTKA, the EU, and TUBITAK projects. Our academicians are highly active in this regard.
M. Ertuğrul pointed out that the health sector represents the focal point of their work. ‘’Our main focus is health, but our other departments have been progressing rapidly as well. I would like to say that we are especially full of hope about the progressions of nanotechnology and the technical equipment. At this point, we are expecting to receive applications for the branches of both medicine and advanced level of technical equipment, and we believe that we can make difference in these fields’’ the assistant professor stated. He continued as ‘’Outsourcing technology is quite costly and after a certain point, it is not sustainable. As the TTOs, we must transfer our own domestically generated technology to overseas and consequently, we must render our country as a pioneer of technological development and change. I hope that we will have great contributions to this end goal’’.
Prof. Melih BULU, the Rector of Istinye University, gave information about the purpose of the TTOs by stating “The purpose of the TTOs is to ensure that the information produced here meets the relevant points in society. The protection of that information and the applications such as patents and utility models are again among the duties of the TTOs. Another issue is the corporatization of the information produced here by the teachers or the students. We do this in the incubation within the TTOs. We have a very significant infrastructure about health issues, which brings us to the forefront in the health field. We are able to develop and test many projects here. The Engineering Department in our university also supports the field of health.”
Prof. M. BULU, who called for entrepreneurs said: “Thanks to the infrastructure that we have, entrepreneurs have the chance to apply the projects that they have developed here in our institution. I kindly request entrepreneurs to attend our incubator.”
After the ceremony, guests visited the Technology Transfer Office. İstinye University TTO stated that applications for Entrepreneurship and Incubator was going to end on April 18.
