The 3rd International Media and Society Symposium (MASS) Discusses 'Digital Culture'

The International Media and Society Symposium is an annual event organized by the Faculty of Communication at Istinye University, dedicated to exploring current topics in media, communication, and technology. The symposium brings together leading experts and stakeholders from different disciplines, serving as a platform for knowledge sharing, discussing trends, and fostering collaboration in the ever-changing media and communication landscape.

The 3rd International Media and Society Symposium (MASS) will be held on May 24-25-26 at Istinye University to investigate the multifaceted dimensions of the global panorama of media and communication, with digital culture at its core. This highly anticipated event will bring together academics, professionals and researchers from around the world to engage in discussions, share insights and also explore the impact of digital culture on society.

The symposium, themed 'Digital Culture', aims to develop an understanding of how digital culture influences global communication, media production, consumption patterns and cultural practices. Serving as a platform to analyze the latest trends, challenges and opportunities arising from the digital age, the event explores the ways in which technology continuously shapes our interactions, thinking and creative processes.

The opening session will commence on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 10:00 am in the Vadi Campus Conference Hall and will also be held online at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83491314791. This session, moderated by Prof. Nezih Erdoğan, will feature esteemed speakers such as Prof. Vincent Miller from the Department of Sociology and Cultural Studies at the University of Kent, Prof. Sevinç Gülseçen from the Department of Informatics at Istanbul University, Prof. Scott R. Rettberg from the Department of Linguistics, Literature, and Aesthetics Studies at the University of Bergen, and Prof. F. Mutlu Binark from the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema at Hacettepe University. These speakers will address various topics related to digital culture and media, including the history of labor in the digital culture and the digitalization process of film festivals.

The event series will conclude with the closing session moderated by Dr. Sadi Kerim Dündar on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 4:00 pm. This session will feature prominent speakers such as Noah Kadner, the Virtual Production Editor of American Cinematographer Magazine and Founder of VirtualProducer.io, Dr. John Maeda, Vice President and technology expert in Microsoft's Design and Artificial Intelligence Division, and Prof. Philip Gassmann, director and producer from the Department of Film and Television at HFF University. Topics discussed in this session will include virtual production, design and artificial intelligence, and green filmmaking. The symposium, which began with online workshops in various application areas on May 22-23, 2023, will feature 187 participants from 11 countries presenting 157 papers in 33 sessions alongside invited speakers.

Throughout the symposium, an online visual arts exhibition titled 'Disintermediation' will be available at https://www.artsteps.com/view/6462a0f625c2029f3abd9afe, and the 5th International Exlibris Competition Exhibition of Istinye University will be showcased. This exhibition will be open to the public at Vadi Istanbul Mall from May 22 to May 29.
