İstinye University Academics Receive TÜBA and TÜBİTAK Awards

İstinye University academics were honored at the TÜBA and TÜBİTAK Science Awards Ceremony. In the TÜBİTAK Service category, Prof. Dr. Meral Beksaç from the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, İstinye University, was awarded, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Bal Öztürk, a faculty member at the Faculty of Pharmacy, İstinye University, earned the "TÜBA Outstanding Young Scientist" award in the 2024 program.

The "TÜBA and TÜBİTAK Science Awards Ceremony," organized jointly by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) under the patronage of the Presidency, saw İstinye University academics receiving awards. Prof. Dr. Meral Beksaç was honored with the TÜBİTAK Service Award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of science and technology in Turkey. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Bal Öztürk, from the Faculty of Pharmacy at İstinye University, was recognized with the TÜBA Outstanding Young Scientist 2024 Award (GEBİP), which supports and encourages Turkey's young scientists.

The award is given to individuals who have contributed to the development of science and technology in Turkey.

The TÜBİTAK Service Award, which Prof. Dr. Meral Beksaç received, is an important award given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of science and technology in Turkey. This award aims to honor the contributions of individuals who support scientific and technological progress. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Bal Öztürk from the Faculty of Pharmacy at İstinye University was awarded the TÜBA Outstanding Young Scientist Award, which is aimed at encouraging and supporting young scientists in Turkey.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın, the President of TÜBİTAK, stated that TÜBİTAK not only provides significant R&D support to universities, the public, and the private sector, but also contributes to the development of national technologies in critical areas such as defense, aviation, space, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence. Aydın emphasized, “We support the training of individuals who produce scientific knowledge, transform this knowledge into technology, and deliver it to society, and we place great importance on rewarding successful scientists and recognizing their efforts.”

About the TÜBA-GEBİP Awards

The TÜBA-GEBİP Awards, established in 2001, are presented to outstanding young scientists working in the fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences. The awards aim to encourage them to continue their scientific work in Turkey, form their own research groups, and reward and support international quality projects and publications originating from Turkey. This highly sought-after program provides awardees with a financial support of 20,000 Turkish lira annually for three years, in addition to 6,000 lira per year for Ph.D. students in the thesis stage, as well as mentoring from academic members.
