Istinye University and UNESCO Collaborate to Launch Türkiye's First UNESCO MOST School

Türkiye's first UNESCO MOST (Management of Social Transformations) School, hosted by Istinye University, will be organized under the theme of "Artificial Intelligence and Migration Governance." The initiative, developed in collaboration with UNESCO, aims to examine how artificial intelligence can contribute to migration policies and explore sustainable solutions to societal challenges.

The program will bring together researchers from the fields of social sciences and engineering with policymakers, focusing on the role of AI in migration governance processes and supporting the development of innovative policies in this area. The project team, led by Prof. Dr. Ayselin Yıldız from Istinye University's Department of International Relations, includes Prof. Dr. Osman Can Ünver, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sundu, Assistant Professor İsmail Ergen, Assistant Professor Levent Korkmaz, and Kazım Timuçin Utkan. Experts from abroad, along with Prof. Dr. Akif Kireçci, Chair of UNESCO Turkey's MOST and Migration Specialization Committee, and Committee member Prof. Dr. Şebnem Akçapar, will also contribute to the project.

 

"Artificial Intelligence and Migration Governance" Education Prioritizes Social Benefit

The training program, "Artificial Intelligence and Migration Governance," signifies a major step in exploring the effective use of AI technologies in addressing migration and related social issues. Through these collaborative sessions, the program seeks to analyze the contributions of AI applications to migration policies and investigate sustainable solutions for societal challenges. The goal is to develop innovative approaches to managing migration processes efficiently and sustainably while prioritizing global and social benefits.

Expressing excitement about the launch of Turkey's first UNESCO MOST School, Prof. Dr. Ayselin Yıldız emphasized the project’s focus on promoting the effective, ethical, and human rights-based use of new technologies in migration. Prof. Yıldız stated that the project would explore AI-supported systems for decision-support mechanisms, facial and voice recognition, border management, nationality determination, and risk analyses.
