Prof. Dr. Osman Can Ünver, a faculty member of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at İstinye University, participated in the 39th Session of the United Nations Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (CMW). The session was held at the United Nations' Wilson Palace in Geneva from December 2 to 13, 2024.

The Convention, to which Türkiye is also a party, provides a comprehensive legal framework aimed at securing the human rights of migrant workers and their families at the international level. Serving as a member of the CMW since 2016, Prof. Dr. Ünver played a crucial role during the session as the Rapporteur for Seychelles, contributing significantly to the preparation of the evaluation report on the country’s human rights practices concerning migrant workers.

Decision to Expand Ratification of the Convention

During the session, Prof. Dr. Ünver also participated in a special meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk. He proposed an action plan to encourage more countries to ratify the Convention, a proposal that was accepted by the participants. This plan is expected to serve as a roadmap to strengthen international solidarity in protecting the rights of migrant workers.
