Turkish Scientists Present CERN Research to the Turkish Community in Geneva

Turkish scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) presented their research to the Turkish community at an event in Geneva on Saturday, October 1. Dr. Sinem Şimşek, the only female physicist among the four presenters, is currently conducting post-doctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Serkant Ali Çetin, a faculty member in the Department of Basic Sciences at Istinye University within the body of ISU-LEE.

The event, "Science Day with Turks at CERN," was held at CERN's headquarters. In attendance were Ambassador Sadık Arslan, Türkiye’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, and İpek Zeytinoğlu Özkan, Türkiye’s Geneva Consul General. Kaya Tatar presented research on CERN and particle physics, Salim Oğur presented research on particle accelerators, Efe Yazgan presented research on Higgs physics and Sinem Şahin presented research on Large Hadron Collider detectors.

Türkiye has been making scientific contributions to CERN since 1960, as Prof. Dr. Abdülkadir Balıkçı, President of the Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Agency (TENMAK), pointed out in his address opening the event. He stated that TENMAK intends to expand the activities of Turkish researchers at CERN.
