Cinema and Artificial Intelligence event at Atlas 1948 Cinema

“Cinema and Artificial Intelligence,” a symposium organized by Istinye University in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and with the support of the Cinema General Directorate, was held recently at Atlas 1948 Cinema. It was attended by Istinye University rector Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş, Atlas 1948 Cinema general manager Birol Güven, and luminaries from the cinema world. Coordinating the project was Data Science Department head, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Özdemir.

The symposium featured discussions of artificial intelligence from past to present, including the struggle between humanity and artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence on the silver screen and machines making cinema. As part of the event, an exhibition showcased artificial intelligence’s reinterpretation of films and concepts. More than 600 cinema and technology enthusiasts from different cities watched the evolution of artificial intelligence and its effects on humans and cinema through silver screen reflections and technology presentations by experts in the field. Among the speakers were Emrah Kaya, Cenk Caner, Mustafa Cıvlız, Emre Yetim, Yusuf Fırat Atmaca, Renan Bilek, Barış Erdoğan and Eylem Kaftan.

Birol Güven emphasized that artificial intelligence is present in all aspects of cinema; its implementation will continue and many job opportunities will emerge as a result. Güven said, “There is much to be done in the field of artificial intelligence. We are starting here and hope this event will raise new questions. We are establishing an artificial intelligence follow-up group with the crowd here. We’ll repeat this symposium at the Beyoğlu Culture Path Festival in September and then see what has changed between now and then.”
A second edition of Cinema and Artificial Intelligence will be held in October.
