Dr. Alexander Novikov, who joined our university from St. Petersburg ITMO University as part of the TUBITAK project, provided 'Computational Chemistry' training to the Master's students of the Chemistry Department at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.
During the training process, students learned to calculate various properties of molecules using Density Functional Theory (DFT), one of the fundamental methods of computational chemistry, on a supercomputer. Thanks to this technology, detailed properties of molecules can be analyzed in a computer environment without the need for a laboratory. Students also learned project development processes using these methods and participated in practical projects.
The innovative program contributes to the education of graduate students; those who actively participate in the project gain valuable experience in computational chemistry and software, and have the opportunity to apply this knowledge in their future research.
This training program is an important step for Istinye University, one of the few practitioners of computational chemistry in Türkiye. By integrating chemistry with modern technologies such as coding and software, students will be prepared to work in various fields such as green energy, transformative economy, materials science, and catalysts in the future. These developments will enhance the research capacity of the university and lead to significant contributions to future projects.
This educational initiative at Istinye University aims to support scientific and technological advancements at both national and international levels. The university seeks to accelerate research opportunities and broaden scientific perspectives by expanding its work in this field.
