Istinye University Rolls Up Its Sleeves for Environmental Awareness on Environment Day

Istinye University organized an "Environmental Responsibility – Trash Collection Event" on World Environment Day. The event raised environmental awareness, promoted the conservation of natural resources and supported environmental sustainability. It involved academics and students alike.

The event began with a walk from Istinye University Vadi H Campus and concluded at the Vadi Main Campus. The event was attended by Istinye University’s Rector and Vice Rector, sustainability center academics, faculty members, and students. Participants collected trash around the university to emphasize the importance of environmental consciousness.

Speaking with students, Rector, Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş highlighted the significance of the environment: "People and societies exist within their surroundings, nature, and the environment. Thus the environment is very important to us. We are not only a university of science, research, and equality but also an environmentally friendly institution. Our students exemplify environmental awareness, and we will certainly spread this consciousness."

Vice Rector and Director of the Climate and Environment Research Center, Prof. Dr. Hatice Gülen, added: "At our university, we have established the 'International Sustainability Application and Research Center,' the 'Climate and Environment Research Center,' and the Sustainability Committee under senior management, prioritizing environmental issues. Throughout the year, our activities in both academia and the community address environmental concerns. To create environmental awareness our students organized the first trash collection event in December 2023 and set up booths on campus throughout the semester. A second event was held on World Environment Day, June 5th. In aiming to continue various awareness-building activities and seminars related to the environment, our university found World Environment Day the perfect opportunity to contribute to environmental consciousness in society."
